  33. Unfortunately, some of the tax and business incorporation advice doesn't really 
  34. apply to us Canadian folks! I'm not blaming that on *you*, however ;-). It still
  35. was very good general advice.

  37. I think that one of the best aspects of the tape had very little to do with 
  38. "Starting you own Animation Business", per se [as mentioned above]. Your 
  39. enthusiasm, dogged determination, and persistence -- especially! -- are a great 
  40. lesson for _anybody_ setting out to accomplish *anything*, let alone starting 
  41. an animation company!

  43. As a long-time freelancer who has been through some wars myself :-), I would 
  44. recommend one small addition: If at all possible, get the client to pay in
  45. stages, if possible. I usually insist on 50% upon sign-off and 50% upon 
  46. completion. Occassionally, I will let myself get talked into 1/3 upon sign-off,
  47. 1/3 proof of concept [usually storyboards and a couple of static images], and
  48. 1/3 upon completion. If they're not willing to put any money up front, then
  49. that can be a good indication of the old "Tire Kicker Syndrome" that you 
  50. described so eloquently.
